Bio
“A vocalist who appeals to both the heart and mind enriches the night. One who robs me of my discontent is better still. But, she that delivers sultry ballads, melancholic blues and soul lifting swing tunes is something to rejoice!”
A singer with a wealth of experience, Mercedes committed to Classical voice training at the age of thirteen when she began participating in musicals & music festivals. Later she gained operatic & piano training from the University of Victoria Music School & the Victoria Conservatory of Music.
Expanding from this solid musical foundation, Mercedes' passion for Jazz took hold when she began gigging in nightclubs with talented instrumentalists within Canada & Japan. After an intense period of time working as a professional Jazz singer and studio vocalist for various recording artists, Mercedes took a brief hiatus from performing to embark on a mentorship with Jazz Pianist Chris Thompson.
With a history of singing that began at the age of five, Mercedes has become a versatile & expressive vocalist whose passion for music shines through every performance. Mercedes also holds a BA in English Literature with Distinction from the University of Victoria. Her skill with language and love of words is evident in her original song lyrics.
Currently, Mercedes is performing at lounges & private functions while studying
jazz piano & composing her debut CD.
